I just wanted to comment really quick on Josh’s points about Kylo Ren, particularly in regard to his fight with Rey. Sorry if this gets into spoiler territory for anyone else. SPOILERS! So first, you have to remember that Kylo took a shot from Chewbacca’s crossbow gun straight to the hip. This is the same gun that literally sent stormtroopers flying 10 feet into the air when it was shot near them, and he took one straight to the body. So he should probably be dead by this point or at least laying on the ground writhing in agonizing pain , let alone immediately back up on his feet, out in the snow, throwing down.

Second, Snoak told Kylo to bring Rey to him, which means his goal in the fight was not to kill her. So even if he was given the opportunity during the fight to land a killing blow, he wouldn’t have, which can be a disadvantage over someone who’s just trying to murder you.

Third, we learn pretty early on in the film that Rey is already a skilled fighter. She took on 2 guys trying to steal bb-8 singlehandedly in front of Finn. I don’t know to what extent her fighting experience goes, or if the principles of fighting with a staff translates to fighting with a lightsaber, but at least she’s not a total noob.

Finally, as we learn in A New Hope when Luke asks (regarding the force) “You mean it controls your actions?” to which Ben replies “Partially, but it also obeys your command.” So it was clear Kylo had the upper hand throughout the fight, up until Rey closed her eyes and started tapping into the force. So throughout the remainder of the fight, Reys actions were at least partially being controlled by the force. You can argue the same should be true of Kylo, but at that time he was so full of conflict, anger, desperation, and pain, that his actions were more driven through emotion, rather than the force.

Anyways, those are just my ramblings. I’d give it an 8.9/10. Good review.

Well I agreed with the review, but some of the things I didnt like about the movie I dont feel were as bad as I thought after reading davids comment.

I didn’t like the fact that so much of the movie was recycled. I gave it a 6/10. I hope we don’t have that issue with Episode VIII.
